Fort Massachusetts, located on the western end of Ship Island, was populated by the Confederate Army and afterward recalled by Union Troops who converted it into a cell. On the premises there’s a library, a summer lodge, and a Confederate graveyard; excursions are provided all year round except winter. Sightseers to the Old Biloxi Burial ground can go through the tombstones of the original French colonizers.

British rule prevailed from 1763 to 1779 and then Spanish rule came into picture from 1779 to 1798. Despite of these, the character of Biloxi sticks around French. Biloxi came under the control of United States of America in 1811. It became a part of the Mississippi Territory. A union was brought into existence by introducing Mississippi and Biloxi in 1817.
